Two Ways to Prepare Ceremonial Cacao

Join founder of Cape Cacao, Fran Siebrits, in her kitchen as she demonstrates two different methods to prepare cacao.

In this workshop Fran will guide you through a:

1. Mindful slow-brew method on the stove for rituals and ceremonies.
2. Quicker blender method for an on-the-go superfood “hot chocolate” drink.
3. Meditative cacao drinking ritual.

Please prepare two beautiful ritual spaces for yourself where you won’t be disturbed:

  1. Cacao Workstation: the first space will be in the kitchen where you are preparing your cacao.
  2. Ritual / Drinking Space: the second will be a space away from the kitchen where you can sit and meditatively enjoy your cacao. For both of the above spaces, feel free to adorn them with candles, flowers, incense, or anything else you wish.

Kitchen equipment:

  • Small pot with water in it
  • Cup to place in the pot
  • Chopping board and sharp knife
  • Teaspoons for measuring and stirring
  • Thermos flask
  • (Kitchen scale for measuring, otherwise a guess-timation will do)

  • Cacao (20-30g per person); any is fine, but ceremonial-grade is best (click here to purchase via our webshop)
  • Warm water (not boiling)
  • Natural sweetener of choice (coconut sugar / honey / mesquite / maca powder)
  • Cinnamon
  • Salt
  • Optional ingredients to add: vanilla powder, cayenne pepper, nut milk/butter

Fran demonstrates two different methods to prepare cacao: a slow-brew method on the stove for rituals and ceremonies, and a quicker blender method for a superfood “hot chocolate” drink. Thereafter she guides us through a meditative cacao drinking ritual.
